Members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) say they observed a driver commit a series of traffic infractions in the Town of Carmel on Tuesday, July 16.

After initiating a traffic stop, an investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Michael Scauzillo, 51, of Mahopac, was allegedly driving with a suspended New York State license.

Scauzillo was also found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin, according to the NEU.

Scauzillo was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a traffic misdemeanor.

Scauzillo was ticketed, released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.
